Whatley Manor Hotel & Spa the Cotswolds gastronomic getaway (www.whatleymanor.com; 01666 822 888) has got together with the iconic Beaufort Polo Club at nearby Tetbury, to offer guests the chance to stay at the hotel and enjoy a hands on Polo Experience at the club.

Located in the beautiful countryside near Malmesbury, Whatley Manor is a lovingly restored 19th century Grade II listed manor house, which was originally built as a lodge on the Beaufort Estate.  It’s now a hotel with 23 bedrooms and set in 12 acres of English country gardens and is ideally situated for a visit to Beaufort Polo Club.

The Club is the venue for some of the best polo in the UK, as well as being a renowned training centre offering lessons to players of all ages and experiences and is a great way to celebrate a special event or just have a go at the ‘Sport of Kings’.

The half-day Beaufort Polo Club ‘Polo Experience’ package offers the chance to work with HPA-accredited coaches, who specialise in putting guests at ease. Starting from the ground participants learn how to hold the stick before going into the basics of hitting and practicing the various different swings. They then graduate to the wooden horse to get a feel of what is to come before sitting on a polo pony for the first time. Next comes stick and ball coordination in either the club’s indoor area or on the beautiful grounds, combining everything to successfully hit the ball before a fun chukka.

The experience ends with a delicious lunch in the Beaufort Clubhouse and the chance to enjoy the afternoon’s matches to see how the pros do it!

Prices for the Polo Experience start at £100 per person or £130 pp to include a two-course lunch from the Clubhouse. Ponies and polo equipment included.

A one-night stay at Whatley Manor Hotel & Spa costs from £260 per room based on a standard room, including bed & breakfast, full use of the Aquarias Spa facilities and VAT.
