![]() 10 years after first opening its doors as a fresh-faced newcomer in the mountain retreat of Soller, boutique Hotel L’Avenida has undergone a substantial facelift with bedroom upgrades, a cool remodelled bar, a brand-new reception/lobby area and the addition of a gym, whilst remaining true to the historic heritage of the turn of the century Modernist mansion. L’Avenida started life as a private house and following a meticulous restoration it opened in 2007 as an eight-bedroom hotel and quickly became the coolest hotel in the area. It developed an enviable reputation for delivering a quirky mix of high end service, glorious interiors and a heart-felt welcome, picking up a string of accolades including recognition as one of the top 20 hotels in the whole of Spain.
L’Avenida is housed within one of the finest examples of a ‘Modernist’ style building in Mallorca, having been originally designed and built in 1907 by the famous Spanish architect Joan Rubio i Bellver, who worked with Antonio Gaudi as a pupil and colleague*. Many of Rubio’s original features were retained, from the original frescoes and plasterwork on the ceilings to the magnificent marble floors, metalwork and staircase that spirals up through the building. From the original eight double rooms and suites a further four rooms, overlooking the garden, have been added with large four-poster beds and cosy carpet details in to Balcony rooms. Throughout the hotel each room reflects the original Modernist design and mixes old with new to create sumptuous bathrooms featuring iconic Philippe Starck details, Pocelanosa ceramics and Mapini White Corian sinks. Stucco tiles complement the original moulded ceilings of the first floor, whilst on the second floor the bare wooden ceiling beams influenced the natural earth tones of the wenge coloured bathroom tiles and offer the greatest views of the surrounding UNESCO World Heritage recognised Tramuntana Mountains. New for 2017 a remodelled, laid back cosy lobby bar at the entrance to the hotel serves deli-style lunches, home-made cakes and retro ice lollies to guests and passers-by on the elegant Gran Via, on which the hotel is located. The cool vibe oozes from the smoked grey walls featuring a series of convex oversized fish eye mirrors and an enormous original artwork by local Soller artist, Miguel Bernat Busquets. Guests can linger for a coffee and read the papers relaxing on the weathered leather banquette seating whilst retro style Edison light bulbs add to the hip feel of the original cafe style ceramic mosaic floor. Hotel director Paul Slijper says “L’Avenida is once again a real head-turner in terms of design and architecture. From the outset, we always wanted to create a hotel experience for our clients that ensures complete relaxation combined with unparalleled style. I believe the number of accolades we have been awarded over our 10-year history clearly demonstrates that we are achieving this”. “Our amazing staff have been instrumental in defining our brand and ensuring clients always leave happy. If we can change just one traveller’s life for the better, then we have done our job as hoteliers”. “It is hard work keeping a hotel at such a level of expectation but L’Avenida will not stop here. Hotels are constantly moving, living experiences that need to be kept fresh and exciting to ensure that clients continue to receive the experience of a lifetime. That is our goal for the next 10 years”. In the lush tropical courtyard garden, which is planted with Bamboo, Bougainvillea and mixed evergreen topiaries, a large swimming pool shares the area with the sun-bathing deck and shady gazebo. A new 'micro' cardio-based gym offers a small range of professional FFIT-TECH equipment with a treadmill, cross trainer, bikes and suspension/sling trainer. For soothing spa treatments L'Avenida Wellness features a range of therapeutic in-room Kama Ayerveda massages and treatments. L’Avenida is within five minutes walking distance of Soller’s bustling town square and 10 minutes by tram from the beach and harbour of Port Soller. The port has itself been transformed over the last few years with a beautiful new pedestrian boulevard running along the length of the beach, enabling visitors to step from the tram and into a choice of restaurants and bars directly on the pavement overlooking the sea. The capital city, Palma, is just 30 minutes’ drive away. Beyond the hotel a full range of activities include local yacht charter with beach picnic, hiking in the surrounding Tramuntana Mountains, private tennis lessons with a fully qualified coach, golf at nearby Son Termens 18-hole golf course, guided vineyard and local market tours. To celebrate its first 10 years, between 7th March and 30th April 2017 Hotel L’Avenida is offering a Celebration Package with a 10% discount on a 3-night minimum stay including a bottle of chilled Champagne and luxury hand-made chocolates in the room on arrival, for bookings made directly with the hotel.
